Robert Grif­fin, Prin­ci­pal and Tech­ni­cal Advisor

As Prin­ci­pal of Aban­doned Prop­erty Ser­vices LLC, he pro­vides tech­ni­cal sup­port based upon his thirty one years expe­ri­ence in the field. He adds the depth of knowl­edge in all aspects of aban­doned prop­erty issues and has a wide range of expe­ri­ence in var­i­ous indus­tries. He con­sults with his staff and those of the clients on issues that are uncov­ered dur­ing the engagements.

Prior to join­ing Aban­doned Prop­erty Ser­vices LLC as Prin­ci­pal, Robert was a Senior Man­ager of Unclaimed Prop­erty Ser­vices for the East­ern Region with Deloitte & Touche LLP. In addi­tion to the role, Robert pro­vided tech­ni­cal assis­tance and reviewed project work­pa­pers and deliv­er­ables for twenty staff mem­bers across the coun­try, and led two of the firm’s for­mal exten­sive one-week train­ing sessions.

Prior to join­ing Deloitte & Touche, he was Direc­tor of Audits for the Comp­trol­ler of the State of New York for over twenty years and headed the unclaimed prop­erty pro­gram where he super­vised a staff of twenty eight pro­fes­sion­als in the per­for­mance of audits of major finan­cial insti­tu­tions, insur­ance com­pa­nies, stock bro­kers, retail­ers, mutual funds, trust com­pa­nies, trans­fer agents, man­u­fac­tur­ers, importers, ser­vice com­pa­nies, and For­tune 500 companies.

He cre­ated detailed audit guides, audit pro­grams and pro­ce­dures and con­ducted in house staff train­ing for all of the New York Comptroller’s audit staff. He devel­oped and imple­mented New York s vol­un­tary com­pli­ance pro­gram for unclaimed prop­erty. Robert has a proven track record of accom­plish­ments in mutu­ally ben­e­fi­cial agree­ments between the gov­ern­ment and the hold­ers, and has been involved with over 1,000 audits, with the major­ity in the finan­cial ser­vices indus­try. He was instru­men­tal in pro­vid­ing lit­i­ga­tion sup­port to the Attor­ney Gen­eral of the State of New York in the U.S. Supreme Court case of Delaware vs. New York that resulted in addi­tional fed­eral com­mon law regard­ing the rules of juris­dic­tion for unclaimed property.

Robert has fre­quently spo­ken at meet­ings of the National Asso­ci­a­tion of Unclaimed Prop­erty Admin­is­tra­tors, auditor’s sem­i­nars and pro­fes­sional asso­ci­a­tion conferences.

Karen Ander­son, Senior Com­pli­ance Advisor

Karen is a 20-year vet­eran of the unclaimed prop­erty indus­try. In her APS role, Karen guides busi­nesses in achiev­ing and sus­tain­ing com­pli­ance and in min­i­miz­ing their unclaimed prop­erty lia­bil­ity Fur­ther, Ander­son pro­vides holder edu­ca­tion via the APS and trade asso­ci­a­tion web­sites, speak­ing engage­ments and publications.

Prior to join­ing APS, Karen was avice pres­i­dent at Unclaimed Prop­erty Recov­ery and Report­ing (UPRR) where for 12 years she assisted For­tune 500 com­pa­nies in resolv­ing unclaimed prop­erty com­pli­ance issues and with annual report­ing. Prior to her years at UPRR, Karen served as a mem­ber of the pol­icy staff of for­mer Illi­nois Gov­er­nor where she devel­oped policy/programs relat­ing to state busi­ness reg­u­la­tion. For 5 years, Ms. Ander­son served as Illi­nois’ unclaimed prop­erty admin­is­tra­tor and on the board of the National Asso­ci­a­tion of Unclaimed Prop­erty Admin­is­tra­tors (NAUPA). After leav­ing state ser­vice, Karen was the first NAUPA Director.

Cur­rently, Karen is the Trea­surer of the Board of the Unclaimed Prop­erty Pro­fes­sion­als Orga­ni­za­tion (UPPO), the co-chair of UPPO Mem­ber Ser­vices Com­mit­tee, a mem­ber of the UPPO Bylaws com­mit­tee, a mem­ber of the Secu­ri­ties Trans­fer Asso­ci­a­tion Unclaimed Prop­erty Com­mit­tee, and co-chairs the Indus­try Sub­com­mit­tee to the NAUPA Uni­for­mity Com­mit­tee. She has authored numer­ous unclaimed prop­erty arti­cles and pub­li­ca­tions and is fre­quently a selected speaker at indus­try and trade asso­ci­a­tion func­tions; i.e., the Asso­ci­a­tion of Finan­cial Pro­fes­sion­als, the Insti­tute of Man­age­ment Admin­is­tra­tion, The Accounts Payable Net­work, etc.

Mar­cella Easly, Senior Com­pli­ance Advisor

Mar­cella is APS’ Com­pli­ance Spe­cial­ist respon­si­ble for holder research, data analy­sis and State liai­son. Mar­cella assists clients with tech­ni­cal data issues, and cre­ates holder pol­icy and pro­ce­dure man­u­als. Mar­cella is retired from The Ore­gon Divi­sion of State Lands after 14 years as admin­is­tra­tor of Oregon’s Unclaimed Prop­erty Pro­gram, Estate Admin­is­tra­tion, and Civil For­fei­ture Units. Dur­ing this time, she drafted major leg­is­la­tion and admin­is­tra­tive rules, and imple­mented pro­ce­dures to sim­plify and stream­line the unclaimed prop­erty report/remittance for the State of Ore­gon. She is the for­mer Pres­i­dent of the National Asso­ci­a­tion of Unclaimed Prop­erty Admin­is­tra­tors (NAUPA) . She also served as West­ern Regional Vice Pres­i­dent and chaired or served on many com­mit­tees, includ­ing Holder Liai­son, Fed­eral rela­tions, and Reci­procity. As NAUPA Pres­i­dent, Mar­cella imple­mented holder-training sem­i­nars through­out the nation, which increased the aware­ness of the unclaimed prop­erty statutes. She designed and assisted in the cre­ation of the holder ref­er­ence hand­book con­tain­ing unclaimed prop­erty pro­ce­dures and require­ments for all States; and was an active par­tic­i­pant in Con­gres­sional hear­ings that resulted in favor­able rul­ings for per­sons with unclaimed deposits in failed finan­cial insti­tu­tions. She assisted with coor­di­na­tion, devel­op­ment and imple­men­ta­tion of national prop­erty type codes to be used by hold­ers when remit­ting unclaimed prop­erty electronically.

Jen­nifer Fine,  Senior Manager

Jen­nifer, in her role as a Senior Man­ager, serves as an unclaimed prop­erty sub­ject mat­ter expert, with sig­nif­i­cant expe­ri­ence pro­vid­ing audit defense man­age­ment, vol­un­tary dis­clo­sure rep­re­sen­ta­tion, gift cer­tifi­cate plan­ning, poli­cies and pro­ce­dures assis­tance, and com­pli­ance ser­vices. She has pro­vided unclaimed prop­erty advi­sory ser­vices for many large For­tune 500 com­pa­nies in var­i­ous indus­tries includ­ing bank­ing, insur­ance, enter­tain­ment, health­care, oil & gas, telecom­mu­ni­ca­tion, retail and man­u­fac­tur­ing. Jennifer’s expe­ri­ence and knowl­edge allow her the abil­ity to pro­vide clients with guid­ance and solu­tions to unclaimed prop­erty tech­ni­cal issues.

Before join­ing APS, Jen­nifer worked as a man­ager in the Unclaimed Funds Advi­sory Ser­vices group for Ernst & Young LLP, advis­ing clients in all indus­tries with unclaimed prop­erty mat­ters. She was part of a national team of experts ded­i­cated to pro­vid­ing unclaimed prop­erty solu­tions and guid­ance. Jen­nifer also spent some time work­ing in Ernst & Young’s Tax-Exempt Orga­ni­za­tions Tax Con­sult­ing prac­tice, pro­vid­ing advi­sory ser­vices to many large tax-exempt clients, includ­ing health­care orga­ni­za­tions, pri­vate foun­da­tions and universities.

Hank McClusky, Senior Man­ager

Prior to join­ing APS in 2009, Hank was a Man­ag­ing Direc­tor for KPMG LLP’s national unclaimed prop­erty prac­tice. McClusky served as the Area Leader for the West and South­west regions as well as the National Leader for com­pli­ance ser­vices. Hank has over 11 years of unclaimed prop­erty expe­ri­ence; both as a con­sul­tant and as the indi­vid­ual respon­si­ble for direct­ing the unclaimed prop­erty pro­gram for one of the world’s largest enter­tain­ment companies.

His exten­sive unclaimed prop­erty expe­ri­ence includes audit defense, annual com­pli­ance, claim recov­er­ies, plan­ning strate­gies and solu­tions, poli­cies and pro­ce­dures, and vol­un­tary dis­clo­sures and remit­tances. Hank has per­formed these ser­vices for var­i­ous indus­tries includ­ing, but not lim­ited to, edu­ca­tion, finance, food and bev­er­age, health­care, hos­pi­tal­ity, man­u­fac­tur­ing, pro­fes­sional ser­vices and retail. Hank has also been a reg­u­lar speaker at sem­i­nars and con­fer­ences attended by For­tune 500 companies.

Richard Kim, Man­ager

Richard has rep­re­sented var­i­ous FORTUNE 500 com­pa­nies in the defense of unclaimed prop­erty audits and in the per­for­mance of com­pre­hen­sive diag­nos­tic reviews, annual com­pli­ance, and amnesty agree­ments. Richard is also famil­iar with the his­tor­i­cal devel­op­ment of the Uni­form Unclaimed Prop­erty Acts, juris­dic­tional unclaimed prop­erty statutes, related unclaimed prop­erty case law, and juris­dic­tional admin­is­tra­tive poli­cies related to unclaimed prop­erty compliance.

Richard has rep­re­sented numer­ous com­pa­nies in multi-jurisdiction unclaimed prop­erty audits. Some of the com­pa­nies he assisted were in the fol­low­ing indus­tries: waste man­age­ment ser­vices, rail trans­port, cloth­ing retail­ing, fuel retail­ing, bank­ing, health­care, trans­porta­tion, tele­vi­sion broad­cast­ing, and more.
Prior to join­ing Aban­doned Prop­erty Ser­vices LLC, Richard was a Man­ager in the National Unclaimed Prop­erty Prac­tice at KPMG LLP. Richard has a Bach­e­lors of Sci­ence in Account­ing and Mas­ters of Busi­ness Admin­is­tra­tion from the Uni­ver­sity of South­ern Cal­i­for­nia. He is also Cal­i­for­nia Cer­ti­fied Pub­lic Accountant.

Thomas Ross, Quan­ti­ta­tive Ana­lyst and Sys­tems Coordinator

Tom is our Quan­ti­ta­tive Ana­lyst & Sys­tems Coor­di­na­tor. As Quan­ti­ta­tive Ana­lyst, Tom con­ducts sta­tis­ti­cal test­ing and quan­ti­ta­tive analy­sis of com­pany finan­cial records in sup­port of client vol­un­tary com­pli­ance and audit-defense projects.

Tom is respon­si­ble for the over­all sys­tem archi­tec­ture of the APS report pro­cess­ing and archive sys­tem, and directs the work of our team Soft­ware Devel­oper in ongo­ing R&D projects. He also works with our Com­pli­ance Spe­cial­ist and state liaisons to ensure that the sys­tem embod­ies the most cur­rent and accu­rate state statu­tory and leg­isla­tive infor­ma­tion avail­able.
Prior to join­ing APS, Tom worked as a finan­cial ana­lyst on IT infra­struc­ture projects and in Six Sigma-based inven­tory and demand man­age­ment analy­sis with J.P. Mor­gan Chase in their IT Finance Controller’s Group.

Jen­nifer Mun­sch, Com­pli­ance Coordinator

As the Com­pli­ance Coor­di­na­tor, Jen­nifer is the client rela­tion­ship liai­son for all annual com­pli­ance issues, ensur­ing timely and accu­rate state fil­ings on behalf of client com­pa­nies. She works closely with the R&D team and Com­pli­ance Spe­cial­ist to ensure that all client needs and con­cerns are taken into account and applied to our APS Processing/Reporting system.

Jen­nifer also pro­vides holder advo­cacy ser­vices to our clients, includ­ing iden­ti­fi­ca­tion and quan­tifi­ca­tion of hold­ers’ unclaimed prop­erty expo­sure, assis­tance with mit­i­ga­tion of unclaimed prop­erty lia­bil­ity, prepa­ra­tion of vol­un­tary dis­clo­sure doc­u­men­ta­tion, and devel­op­ment of poli­cies and procedures.

Prior to join­ing APS, Jen­nifer was a finan­cial ana­lyst in the aban­doned prop­erty depart­ment at Deutsche Bank AG where she was respon­si­ble for the firm’s con­tin­ued com­pli­ance and the devel­op­ment of cor­po­rate unclaimed prop­erty poli­cies and procedures.
